OUR FARM

OUR PEOPLE

Commercial Director and Owner

Kobus has been involved since the first vine was planted on the farm. The idea of Waverley Hills started when he read an article on organic wine production in France in 1997. Wine farming has been in his blood since childhood – he was taken from the milk bottle straight to the wine bottle! He believes in living a balanced and healthy lifestyle which includes indulging sometimes. He loves seafood, tripe(!) and his little weekend house at the beach.

Winemaker

Johan, nicknamed China, is our family-man winemaker. He always wanted to be a winemaker, and has been working in the SA wine industry since 1994. Johan takes things as they come his way and describes himself as a thinker and a doer. He also loves cheese which is a perfect match with wine!

Marketing Manager

Jason joined Waverley Hills on April Fool’s Day in 2008, after being in corporate finance and marketing for over 10 years in Johannesburg. In the office he is determined, direct and sometimes, he admits, impatient. On the weekends you will find Jay out and about enjoying a meal and a few glasses of wine with friends or family. He can’t live without his ridgeback, Baxter, and his Swiss bank account of course!

Assistant Winemaker

Albert studied Agricultural Management before he joined the Waverley Hills team in the beginning of 2006. He is passionate about winemaking despite wanting to be a farmer like his Dad when he was young. He loves biltong, drinking wine (of course!) and spending time with his wife and friends. He is sport crazy (rugby, cricket, soccer) and believes that life is what you make of it, so make it a journey and enjoy the ride.

Farm Manager

Magnus came from Rhebokskloof to join the Waverley Hills team in August 2007. He dreamt of becoming an architect, but has not been disappointed in his choice in becoming a wine farmer. Magnus lives life to the full and enjoys the outdoors – camping, fishing and mountain biking. He enjoys braaiing on the stoep and good braai-broodjies are a must! Magnus (or Mugga as his friends call him) lives by the motto, "Live life to the fullest."

Tasting Room and Admin Clerk

Gail is our jack-of-all trades and the face of Waverley Hills. Gail loves running, reading and spending time with her friends and family. She believes in following the desires of your heart and couldn’t live without love. Her nickname is Sweetpea and favourite food is sushi.

Tasting Room Assistant

Charlene used to work in vineyards before joining Waverley Hills in June 2008. She works magic behind the scenes, keeping the cellar shiny and clean and is a pro at packing wine orders. She likes to chill on the weekends and enjoys watching rugby – Chester Williams is her all time favourite player. She describes herself as sweet, honest and caring which she is beyond doubt.

Marketing Co-ordinator

Tammy worked in London for four years after completing her Bcomm Marketing Degree in Stellenbosch. She joined the Waverley Hills team in April 2009 and has dreamed of being a rock star since she was very young – maybe she will be the next Platteland Pop Idol! She enjoys watching sport with her husband, especially SA rugby and 20/20 cricket. She loves her pets and couldn’t live without them, her friends and family. She loves all sweet treats and life motto is, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."

Environmental Officer

Johann ‘Tuin’ definitely has green fingers and has landscaped amazing gardens and established hiking and biking trails since he started in November 2006. He has vast knowledge on the natural flora and fauna and is passionate about maintaining biodiversity and nature conservation on the farm. His favourite foods are what his mom cooks and can’t live without the grace of God.
